Things pageantry taught me!!

From the title itself you might have known that I was a contestant of a pageant.  Well, I was a finalist in national pageant of Nepal ‘Miss Nepal 2016’. I had never faced the camera before and did not know about most of the things. But after the pageant, a lot of things have changed.

So here are some of the things that I learned after participating in a pageant.

Timing is everything: I cannot even begin to explain how important time is in pageantry. Of course it is important in every aspects of life but is more important when it comes to being ready ‘perfectly’ within a short span of time.

Multitasking: When you are in a pageant, you have to have the quality of multitasking. You are attending the training session for the entire day and in such a big pageant, you do not get a day off but you are expected to be looking good and by that, I mean more put together. So you have to think a lot of things at once. You have to manage your sessions, your wardrobe, your personality and your overall self ALL AT ONCE.

Pretty girls actually do not have attitude: When I was in the audition, a beautiful, tall girl came inside. She was very pretty and of course we were competing so I was expecting her to be arrogant enough for her beauty. But……she was so sweet that she greeted everyone and started talking to the girls who she did not even know. The reason why she won – beautiful inside out!

Hustle is your day to day activity: A pageant is such a platform where you get to enroll in so many activities. You have to do a lot of things at once that you had never thought you could. So you find yourself rushing for everything. But that being said, all the hustle pay you off at the end. You become a multitasker and a calmer person.

Etiquette : Now I am not saying I did not have manners before but after Miss Nepal, I knew how to walk properly, how to sit, dress, talk and eat properly. Thanks to our trainer and the entire team.

Confidence: I was a very under-confident person but after Miss Nepal, I started building up confidence in me. Now I do not shy away with opportunities as I used to do before.

Self-belief: Being able to be selected as one of the contestant is an achievement in itself. To be honest I was having a doubt on myself about the selection although I had met all the criteria. It happens. And when I got a call to know that I was an official contestant I was actually in top of the world!!

Communication skills: Communicating with renowned people and with the sponsors is not the same as communicating with our friends. There is some etiquette for that. And I have improved my communication skills way better.

Maintain yourself: After coming out of a pageant, you are not the same person you used to be before entering it. You become a better version of yourself both physically and mentally. You learn to present yourself well in public. After all, it’s a BEAUTY pageant.

There’s more than just beauty: Many people have a misconception that beauty pageants solely focus on the outer beauty of a person. But it is more than that. The contestants are taught about various things like personality development, communication skills, and etiquette and so on. In short, we work to be a better person.

So these are the things that I learned from being a contestant of Miss Nepal. I am always very grateful to the Miss Nepal organization for having me as one of their family members and for all the opportunities that I got by connecting myself with the pageant. The experience was PRICELESS!!!!!
